PETALING JAYA: Police have stepped up their search for those responsible in setting up a wire trap across a motorcycle lane near a tunnel along the Shah Alam (Kesas) highway.
Brickfields district police chief ACP Shahrul Othman said they received a report from Kesas patrolman that a wire was placed just at the exit of a tunnel on the motorcycle lane near the Awan Kecil turnout.
"The patrolman while on duty at the site was a victim of the wire trap which injured his neck. Although it is a minor injury, we are taking the matter seriously," Shahrul said in a statement today.
He added the wire trap could have been placed for a possible robbery attempt.
Police are investigating the case as obstruction and interference under Section 110 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
On Friday, photos of the wire trap emerged on social media and went viral.
The images were uploaded by netizens as part of a Facebook post, alerting motorcyclists to be careful of the trap and to be vigilant.
Kesas in a statement said the viral photos, which caught the notice of their staff, were given to the police as reference to facilitate investigation.
The highway company also urged motorcyclists to use the main route between 11pm and 6am for their own safety and assured the public that 24-hour patrols will be carried out to avoid any untoward incidents.
