GEORGE TOWN: Hundreds of motorists were stuck during the morning rush hour today after a huge tree fell across Jalan Paya Terubong here.
The tree is believed to have fell following heavy rains before 7am.
This blocked traffic from Air Itam heading towards Bayan Lepas, where the factories are, and from Relau heading towards George Town.
Motorists from Air Itam and the surrounding areas had to turn back while the situation was similar for traffic from the opposite direction.
A Penang and Fire Rescue Department spokesman said they were informed of the incident at about 7.05am and rushed to remove the tree.
"The tree was removed from the road at about 9.15am," he told the media in a brief statement when contacted.
Paya Terubong assemblyman Yeoh Soon Hin when contacted said no one was injured during the incident.
