Made for the Elites

THE phrase, 'you are your workplace', is one that many companies have adopted over the last few years to cope with the massive changes in how the workforce conducts its day-to-day operations today.

While laptops and t­ablets are still go-to devices for these new generation of ­roadwarriors, HP recently launched its Elite x3, which is designed to meet the demands of both employers and employees.

This device, which runs on the Windows 10 Mobile operating system, made its debut in ­February during the Mobile World Congress 2016, and it deftly scooped up 24 awards for its game-changing innovation.
What makes the Elite x3 so special is that it looks like a very st­ylishly-designed s­martphone but is actually so much more.
It is the first built-for-­business mobile device that delivers seamless phablet, laptop and desktop ­business productivity in a single device.
How it does this is by making use of Continuum in Windows 10, which enables quick and frictionless multi-screen transitions between a phone scenario and desktop PC scenario.
From a smartphone ­standpoint, HP has equipped the Elite x3 with all the bells and whistles to enable it to go toe-to-toe with other flagship smartphones.
Under the hood, the Elite x3 is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 and 4GB worth of LPDDR4 RAM.
It also has 64GB of ­storage space which can be further expanded up to 2TB with the use of a microSD card.
The Elite x3 also comes with a 4,150mAh battery which can provide users with up to 500 hours of standby time and 33 hours of talk time.
Other features in the Elite x3 are a large 5.96in WQHD (2560x1400) ­resolution Amoled ­display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4, a 16MP rear-facing camera and an 8MP front-­facing camera.
Security is also a ­priority with the Elite x3 as it boasts dual ­biometric ­authentication, with iris recognition and a ­fingerprint reader.
HP also made sure this ­device is as ­robust as ­possible. The Elite x3 ­passes ­the MIL-STD 810G testing, and is IP67 rated for dust and water resistance.
Features and ­specifications aside, what makes the Elite x3 really stand out is its optional accessories like the HP Desk Dock and Lap Dock.
Both of these transform the device so that it gives users a desktop or laptop experience and enhances the functionality of the Elite x3.
For example, the Desk Dock comes with a DisplayPort for external monitor ­support, two USB-A and a USB-C connection and a wired Ethernet port.
As for the Lap Dock, it helps provide users with a laptop experience using a near-zero bezel 12.5in HD display and it only weighs around 1kg.
For added security, no data is stored on the Lap Dock, and all of the apps, passwords and files are managed and stored on the Elite x3.
The HP Elite x3 is already available for order and comes in at a starting price of RM3,599.
