PETALING JAYA: A bakery franchise announced that it would temporarily close its outlet in Midvalley Megamall after pictures of a rat scurrying on a tray of freshly-baked bread at the store went viral.
In a Facebook post issued today, Komugi Malaysia apologised for what it described as an "unfortunate incident", saying the closure was an immediate measure to assist the relevant authorities in their investigation.
"Komugi takes note of the recent pest incident in our Midvalley Megamall outlet and would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to the customers.
"Food safety and quality are our utmost priority and we take our case very seriously. We are currently working with relevant authorities and the mall management to investigate this isolated incident," it stated.
The pictures of the rat first went viral after Facebook user Melon Roux uploaded them on Sunday.
Without naming the bakery, she stated that she was stunned after her friend had spotted the rat.
"Returned all the pastries that was on my tray and told one of the staff about this. Hopefully in the future they will be more alert," she stated.
