KUALA LUMPUR: Police said a Malaysian man suspected to be linked to the Abu Sayaf militant group and held by the Philippines authorities recently is a Kelantanese.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar (pix) said today that police learnt that the suspect is a supporter of Islamic militants in the South Philippines.
He said the man is allegedly an expert bomb-maker and claims by the Philippines authorities that he was in possession of explosives during his arrest is unverified.
It was reported that the suspect was detained by military personnel while attempting to flee to Malaysia by sea from a port in South Philippines.
