A CON artist thought an elderly woman was an easy target, but his intended victim was too smart for him.
A three-minute video recording of the grandmother turning the table on the scammer on telephone went viral on social media.
The caller told the woman that her son had been kidnapped and demanded a ransom of RM200,000. He claimed an accomplice would wait at a drop-off point to collect the money.
Instead of being rattled by the event, the woman kept her cool and frustrated the con artist with her brilliant replies. The caller got and angry and started scolding her.
"You **, why are you asking me 'how'. Pay up," he shouted in Cantonese.
She replied: "You think this is RM200 or RM2,000? If you say RM20,000 to RM30,000 then it's easy. You say RM200,000, you want to scare me to death?
"We are poor people, where am I going to find the money for you? I've not even seen such an amount before in my life."
The con artist was offended by the counter offer and he retorted: "RM20,000 to RM30,000? You think I'm a beggar? Do you think that if you simply say you have no money then everything will be settled?"
The woman then offered to pay in instalments. When she asked for the name of the alleged victim, the con artist was dumbfounded and caught out.
She chided him: "What do you think I'm crazy? Of course I have to know the name of the person you have kidnapped. Don't you even know his name? If you don't even know his name how am I supposed to pay the money?"
He hung up after getting an earful from his intended victim.
