Guan Eng tells Hadi to show proof of DAP 'invited' foreign powers

GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has told PAS President Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang to show proof the DAP had “invited” foreign powers to interfere in Malaysian political affairs.

The DAP secretary general said the Islamist leader should back his allegation by naming names of foreign leaders the DAP was alleged to have met.

He said Abdul Hadi should provide evidence on how the party has involved foreign powers in Malaysian politics and the lack of proof would mean the allegation was “fitnah” (slander).

He said the DAP was not close to USA or any foreign power, nor Singapore where the Penang government only has a government to government relationship.

“The Barisan Nasional (BN) probably has a closer relationship with the governing party of Singapore,” he said in a press conference yesterday when asked about the allegation.

Lim also expressed his regret over Abdul Hadi's rude remarks against the party in a recent ceramah.

He said such remarks was “impolite” and noted this was not the first time names were being thrown against the DAP and cited several examples.

“I feel it is not right to use such impolite words, especially by leaders who want to be the Prime Minister or the Mentri Besar,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Lim presented RM200,000 to the building fund of the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit which is embarking on a RM5.8 million expansion project.

Deacon and project coordinator Deacon Lazarus Johnathan said work to construct a new three-storey and two-storey building started in July last year and is expected to be completed in September this year.

In his speech earlier, Lim said his government will continue to ensure there was harmony in Penang.

“We will continue to defend diversity and to promote religious harmony and mutual respect,” he said, adding his administration will not bow to extremist groups.
