Coveted PM Hibiscus Award sees huge rise in entries

KUALA LUMPUR: Participation in the Prime Minister's Hibiscus Award this year has quadrupled from the first cycle 21 years ago, reflecting the growing consciousness and awareness among Malaysian companies to practise good environmental management.
This was disclosed by PMHA organising committee chairman Tan Sri Mustafa Mansur who said the award started with only 14 companies participating in 1996. This year, he added, there was participation from 60 companies, among them small and medium enterprises.
"For the past 21 years, the award has been playing an important role in encouraging the business industry to step up their game in adopting sustainable business practices," he said.
The biennial award is jointly sponsored by four leading private sector organisations, namely MICCI, the Business Council for Sustainability and Responsibility Malaysia, Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers, and Environmental Management and Research Association of Malaysia.
The award is also supported by the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry and the Department of Environment.
Three levels of award will be presented – notable, exceptional and excellent.
