Downpour and clogged drainage system cause flash floods in Selangor

PETALING JAYA: An afternoon downpour combined with clogged drainage system resulted in flash floods in several areas in Kuala Lumpur.
Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue assistant director (operations) Azizan Ismail said a flash flood in Jalan 5/155, Bukit OUG damaged the road and two vehicles.
He said the flood was due to the accumulation of mud in the drain channel, believed to be coming from the nearby construction activity.

In another incident, a faulty water outlet caused part of the road in Jalan Senang Ria, Taman Gembira, to be submerged under water.
Azizan said the outlet was clogged by the presence of rubbish and gravel blocking the waterway.
The flood however did not halt traffic flow.
Two fire and rescue personnel were dispatched to the area to clear the outlet.
The stagnant water subsided soon after the outlet was cleared, Azizan said.
