M'sia-China anti-narcotics agencies bust international drug syndicate

KUALA LUMPUR: Cooperation between Malaysian police and the National Narcotics Control Commission of China (NNCC) led to an international drug syndicate being busted, with the arrest of two Nigerians last Thursday.
During the 4.15pm incident in Kepong, police also seized 5.08kg of syabu.
Federal narcotics crime investigation department director Commissioner Datuk Seri Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the team which also comprised Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING) arrested the two men at premises near Taman Pusat Kepong  and seized RM400,000 worth of drugs stashed in backpacks.
"The suspects aged 31 and 33 were nabbed after NNCC provided information on them," Mokhtar said in a press conference at the Bukit Aman police headquarters here today.
He added initial investigations revealed that the drugs smuggled into Malaysia from China were meant for both local and foreign markets.
The suspects are being remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
Police have seized 25 firearms and weapons, drugs worth RM81.67 million namely syabu (333.55kg), ketamine (21.91kg), ecstasy pills (47,235), yaba pills (731,932) and Erimin 5 pills (2,564,397) between Jan 1 and April 13.
