KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has urged Dewan Negara members to declare corruption and power abuse as the country's "public enemy No.1".
MACC chief commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad (pix) said every untoward incident in the country was linked closely to power abuse and corruption which is detrimental to the image of the nation.
He said drug trafficking, human trafficking, leakages in government funds, gambling, financial fraud, prostitution and turf wars are growing due to corrupt practices and power abuse among enforcement agencies that are entrusted with the powers to uphold the law.
"Corruption and abuse of power continue to thrive as enforcement agencies fail to execute the responsibilities given to them. As such, I seek your courage and the support of Senate members to declare corruption and power abuse 'Public Enemy No 1' of the country. The time has come for all parties to be up in arms to address this as it has become a national issue." he said.
Dzulkifli was speaking to members of the Senate in Parliament today which was also attended by its president Datuk Seri S.A.Vigneswaran.
