College student charged with raping underage girl

GEORGE TOWN: A vocational college student was charged for raping an underage girl at Sessions Court here today.
Mohamad Azim Mohd Amin, 19, claimed trial to the charge of raping the 14-year-old girl behind the bush at Bukit Ayun in Sungai Ara, Bayan Lepas at 8pm on Feb 26 this year.
The charge is under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code for rape which carries a maximum of 20 years in jail and liable to whipping sentences, upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Lim Saw Sim prosecuted the case while Mohammad Azim was represented by S. Rethinakumar and Mohd Noor Siraujuddin.
Judge Irwan Suainbon set bail at RM8,000 with one surety and fixed June 19 for mention.
The court also ordered the accused passport to be impounded and warned him and his family not to approach the victim or witnesses in the case.
In another separate case, another teenager Muhammad Aiman Ariff Aabidin, 21 was also charged with raping a girl four years ago.
He claimed trial to the charge of raping a 25-year-old girl at Crystal Suria, Bayan Lepas at 1pm on Dec 15 ,2013.
He was also charged under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code.
Irwan also ordered the accused to surrender his passport and warned him and his family not to approach the victim or witnesses in the case.
He also ordered the accused to report to the nearest police station once a month as the accused was on police wanted list in the case.
He then set a RM8,000 bail on one surety and fixed June 19 for mention.
The case was prosecuted by Lim while the accused was unrepresented.
