Review firms for Kepong incinerator project: Tian Chua

PETALING JAYA: An opposition lawmaker is urging the Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government to once again assess the engagement of the Kepong incinerator project due to its unsolved problem.
"Among it are the legal suit involved between its proposed bidding companies where Malakoff Corp Bhd's subsidiary Tanjung Bin Power Sdn Bhd is seeking claims totaling RM785mil from Sumitomo Corp, Zelan Holdings (M) Sdn Bhd and Sumi-Power Malaysia Sdn Bhd," Batu parliamentarian Tian Chua (pix) said in a statement.
He said that as of now, DRB-Hicom Bhd is partnering with Malakoff Corp Bhd and Japan's Sumitomo Corp bidding for the project.
"How will this matter impact DRB – Hicom proposal to run the incinerator? Does the Ministry feel with this matter in line, will the bidders be competent to deliver a project at such large scale?" he asked.
Apart from that, Tian Chua also revealed that the project has gotten many residents within its vicinity to feel nervous due to the close proximity of it.
"The 1000 tonne incinerator project is planned merely about three to four kilometers from their homes, which may result in thick black smoke polluting their air and worst still the release of bad stench resulting in enormous environmental and health risks," he explained.
Hence, it is high time for the ministry to once again assess the engagement of this incinerator project over the proposed bidding companies and the location of the project, Tian Chua said.
