Student falls to death while attempting to enter seventh floor room of hostel via balcony

PADANG BESAR: A Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) student was killed after he fell from the seventh floor of its Uniciti Alam campus hostel in Sungai Chuchuh here around midday today.
Perlis police chief, SAC Datuk Ab Rashid Ab Wahab said , Goh Xin Li, 21, a Year One student in 'Machining' at the campus, died on the spot.
He said Goh, who hailed from Penang, was said to have attempted to enter his hostel unit via the balcony as his key had been left in his room but was believed to have slipped and fell.
Ab Rashid said a fellow student , Soon Pau Hong, 23, who was passing the area at 2.45 pm stumbled on his body and alerted the university's management.
UniMAP vice-chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal, when met at thel Tuanku Fauziah Hospital (HTF) mortuary in Kangar, said the victim's family had been notified and that they were on their way to Kangar.
"UniMAP will assist the family in this time of their bereavement," he said, adding that the university was leaving it to the police the investigate the case. — Bernama
