11 students diagnosed with TB at MRSM

TAIPING: Some 11 students of Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) Taiping were diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB) from June last year until this month.
Perak Health, Public Transport, Non-Muslim Affairs, National Integration and New Village Committee chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said they comprised eight were boys and three girls, aged 17.
He said the first case was detected last June involving a male student with symptoms of coughing up blood before being diagnosed with TB, about two months later.
"The student is recovering after undergoing treatment while 10 others are undergoing treatment for at least six months," he told reporters after visiting the MRSM here today.
Mah said 453 TB cases involving 14 deaths were reported in Perak between January and April this year, while 1,666 cases with 69 deaths were reported last year and 1,657 cases with 64 deaths in 2015. — Bernama
