20 Malaysian youths to participate in humanitarian mission to Syria

SEPANG: Twenty Malaysian youths will join the international community for a humanitarian mission to Syria.
Asian level mission chief Mohamed Muaz Mohamed Ruslan, 27 said the Unity Convoy' will sent 100 ambulances to Syria's northwest province of Idlib.
"The Malaysian volunteers comes from several NGO's such as the Muslim Volunteer Malaysia, Tangisan Syria di Bumi Jordan, Misi Media Suriah, Global Peace Mission and Humanity Heroes.
"We will gather at the United Kingdom first, before taking the ambulances by land, to Idlib," Mohamed Muaz said at the flag-off ceremony at Kuala Lumpur International Airport here.
He said the Malaysian segment has contributed seven ambulances with each costing about RM100,000.
Muhamed Muaz added the Malaysian volunteers consist of young activists aged 35 and below.
He also urged more Malaysians to contribute to international society in helping those in needs.
"Syria government, under the governance of Bashar al-Assad seems to have weaken the healthcare institution of the country.
"About 90% of hospitals have or has been attacked, i think the healthcare institution is the most vital segment that we can help. We should assist them in education too. This is why we need more people to come and and give their support to help those in need," he said.
The Unity Convoy is an effort by international NGO's, spearheaded by the United Kingdom.
About 150 volunteers from United Kingdom, Malaysia, Australia, Germany, Indonesia and France will participate in the mission.
The convoy will flag-off in the United Kingdom on April 24th, and expected to arrive in Syria on May 4th.
