PETALING JAYA: To ensure the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) concept is fully practised, the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) kicked off the recycling programme in Section 11.
Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran said the MBPJ hoped that the programme could reduce solid waste collection to 30%.
"To make it easier for the residents to recycle, MBPJ will implement the waste separation system here in Section 11.
"We will provide them with a plastic bag where they can put all the recyclables, and place it outside their house for collection," Rajiv said when launching the pilot project at Jalan 11/10 here.
Rajiv added MBPJ will start to collect the recyclables every Monday, starting May 8.
He added the normal three times a week domestic rubbish collection will still resume as normal.
"So we are going to collect four times a week. One day for the recyclables and another three for the usual waste," he said.
Petaling Jaya Zone 11 councillor Lim Yi Wei said that MBPJ will provide with necessary materials to educate the residents on how to recycle.
"During this period, we will come out with more digital material to explain on what type of plastics, or papers that could be recycled," she said.
On December last year, Petaling Jaya mayor Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain said MBPJ wants to ensure the recycling rate increases from 10% to 22% this year.
Among the plans were to equip each household in Petaling Jaya with a 120l-capacity rubbish bin for free.
