No AES cameras installed in Penang: Police

GEORGE TOWN: Penang traffic police have dismissed claims Automated Enforcement System (AES) cameras been installed in the state.

State Police Traffic Enforcement chief Supt Roslan Ali said viral messages stating such cameras have been installed were not true.

“There are plans in the pipeline but none are installed for now,” he said at a press conference today but did not elaborate.

Roslan nonetheless said speed trap operations to nab speeding motorists and those who beat red lights were still running.

He said police will continue to issue summonses, impound vehicles and take lawbreakers to court to reduce accidents on the road.

He however said “human error” also played a part in road fatalities and cited those driving under the influence of drugs as an example.

Roslan earlier announced that Bukit Aman Management Director Datuk Seri Zulkifili Abdullah will flag off an 86km bicycle ride around Penang island as part of the 210th Police Day celebrations this Saturday.

He said about 800 participants are expected, including senior police officers, and the route will start at the Marine Police Base in Batu Uban here.
