Two NGOs lodge police report against Kassim Ahmad

JOHOR BARU: Two non-government organisations here have lodged police reports against an 82-year-old scholar cum former social and political activist Dr Kassim Ahmad over his article on Islam and national religious issue.
Mohd Ridhwan Othman, President of Perimau (Persatuan Pemuda Puteri Melayu Bersatu) or United Malay Youth Association and Johor Muafakat Education Association (Pertubuhan Muafakat Pendidikan Johor) said, Kassim’s article titled “Government has no business meddling in Islam” appeared in his own blog and in a news portal.
He said, Kassim has made seditious statements to the people and suggested to change the Federal Constitution on Islam as national religious status in the article.
He added Kassim should be investigated under Sedition Act.
Ridhwan was accompanied by his two deputy presidents, Abdul Aziz MK Makkai Kutty and Mad Johan Jamian to lodge two police reports against Kassim.
The reports were lodged at Johor Baru South police station today.
