Upgrading works on Klang Valley Double Track project 32% completed
KUALA LUMPUR: The overall upgrading works of the 42km long Keretapi Tanah Melayu's (KTM) Klang Valley Double Track (KVDT) between the Rawang-Salak Selatan and Sentul-Simpang Batu lines is 32% completed, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
He said in addition to the railway tracks, the upgrading project for 16 KTM stations in the Klang Valley also included the signalling and communications system; electrification system; as well as station facilities such as the construction of covered platform, special toilets for the disabled and others.
"This project began in May last year and once it is completed in 2019, the average waiting time (headway) will only be 7.5 minutes compared to 15 minutes at the moment," he said at the launching ceremony of the KVDT Infrastructure Project here today.
Also present were Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi, Dhaya Maju Infrastructure (Asia) Sdn Berhad (DMIA) chairman Gen (Rtd) Tan Sri Mohd Azumi Mohamed and KTM Berhad chairman Datuk Ir Nawawi Ahmad.
Liow said the RM1.41 billion KVDT project was for the first phase, while the second phase would be carried out when the time is right.
The minister was also pleased that the project, being implemented by DMIA, was progressing well as scheduled.
He said the project would further strengthen the public transportation network in the country, especially in the Klang Valley in line with the government's objective in providing the best transportation facilities to the people.
Meanwhile, Liow also announced that one of the machines belonging to DMIA, which was being used in the upgrading works, was named as "Razak 1". — Bernama
