Residents get reprieve from water woes

PETALING JAYA: Residents at the end of Lorong 1A /71N in Seksyen 1A here no longer have to worry about dirty water flowing out of their pipes after Air Selangor installed a new looped piping system.
Bukit Gasing assemblyman R. Rajiv said residents there have been complaining of dirty water since a year ago and Air Selangor determined this was caused by a "dead end" piping system, typically found in very old residential areas.
"The water is dirty because sediments accumulate around this dead end pipe. Residents would complain when it gets dirty every one or two months and Air Selangor will come and flush out the dirty water," Rajiv told the press during a site visit today.
However, he said, residents were frustrated with the recurring problem along with the huge amount of water wasted every time the dead end pipe had to be flushed and demanded a permanent solution.
Rajiv said Air Selangor first came up with the idea to loop the underground pipes in late January just before Chinese New Year and finally fixed the problem on April 12.
He said Air Selangor installed 25m of pipes to create a loop at a cost of RM10,000 and residents have since been giving good feedback on water quality.
Rajiv then urged all Petaling Jaya residents to notify Air Selangor of any water quality issues as the water service provider is responsive to complaints.
