GEORGE TOWN: The decision to remove a Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillor comes under the purview of the state government and not the local authorities.
Council secretary Yew Tung Seang (pix) said this when asked to comment on the termination of Noor Syazwani Mohd Amin by the state administration.
He said it was also up to the state to appoint a new candidate.
"They have the final say on this" he said when met by the media after the full council meeting today.
Noor Syazwani Mohd Amin, 30, was removed by the state government on Wednesday.
No reasons were given for her termination.
The first-term councillor was appointed in January this year.

In a statement issued yesterday, State Local Government committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow said the termination was in accordance with Section 10(4) of the Local Government Act.
Attempts by theSun to contact Noor Syazwani proved futile at the time of writing.
