Tun Abdul Razak Socso rehabilitation centre proves govt's commitment to ensure workers' wellbeing

MALACCA: The Tun Abdul Razak Social Security Organisation (Socso) Rehabilitation Centre proves the government's commitment to ensure wellbeing of workers in the country, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak said.
Built at a cost of RM238 million, the prime minister said the centre is set to be the leading integrated medical and vocational rehabilitation centre in Southeast Asia and the best in the world.
"I am impressed with the treatment and rehabilitation facilities here which are made available through the concept of under one-roof services.
"The centre has also erased all the false image of Malaysia being a bankrupt state. How could we be bankrupt if we have a rehabilitation centre like this?" he said when officiating the opening of the centre at Bandar Hijau, Ayer Keroh near here today.
Also present were Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron, Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem and Socso chief executive officer Datuk Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed.
The construction of the centre on a 22.3ha site began in October 2014.
It now offers hostel accommodation for Socso contributors undergoing treatment and rehabilitation and can cater for up to 350 patients at a time.
Najib said the centre had a vital role to provide treatment and rehabilitation service to ensure that employees who were injured at, or while going to or returning from their workplace, could still return to work.
"We are proud that the centre will function as a 'journey to heal' that will help the injured employees to return to work and support their family. This is Malaysia's success in insuring the wellbeing of workers," he said.
He said the government would also allocate additional aid to the centre from time to time, depending on its financial capability.
Meanwhile, Najib also reminded the people to live a healthy lifestyle as a preventive measure against chronic diseases, such as diabetes and hypertension.
"During my flight to Malacca International Airport, I read a report on the newspaper stating that the people in the country are suffering from obesity, high cholesterol, hypertension and diabetes to the extent of getting their legs amputated.
"So, I call on all Malaysians to take care of your health so that we can reduce the number of patients at this centre and produce more productive workers," he added. — Bernama
