SEREMBAN: The Istana Lama Sri Menanti Royal Museum will be closed for three years to facilitate repair and upgrading works being carried out at the premises, Acting Negri Sembilan Museum Board director Aziz Mohd. Gorip said today.
He said work on the first phase of the project started in December last year and is scheduled to be ready in May 2018.
"After completion of the first phase, the second phase, involving repair of the building, as well as upgrading of the landscape and facilities in the area, will be carried out, and these will take up to one and a half-years to complete.
"As such, we expect the museum, which has been declared a national heritage, to be closed for three years," he told Bernama here today.
The Istana Lama Sri Menanti Royal Museum is one of the landmarks in Kuala Pilah. It was originally a palace for the Negri Sembilan royal family.
The four-storey wooden building was built in 1902, and completed in 1908, using no nails or screws.
It has 99 solid timber pillars. — Bernama
