No new outbreak of H5N1 detected in Kelantan

KOTA BARU: No new cases of H5N1 avian flu have been detected in Kelantan over the past 25 days, says the state veterinary services department.
In a statement here today, the department said so far, 36 locations remained positive for the disease, namely Kota Baru (15 locations), Pasir Mas (six), Tumpat (five), Bachok (six), Pasir Puteh (three) and Ternate (one).
"Overall, 56,953 poultry and 17,531 eggs were disposed as of yesterday and 3,792 samples were taken from 647 poultry owners," the statement said.
The statement also reported that up to 9,812 vehicles were inspected and that there were 43 cases of seizures involving 221 birds via roadblocks conducted in several strategic areas.
In GUA MUSANG, Kelantan Agriculture, Agro-based Industry, Biotechnology and Green Technology Committee chairman Datuk Che Abdullah Mat Nawi said the state government was satisfied with the various parties involved in preventing the spread of the disease.
The roadblock at Jalan Gua Musang-Kuala Krai was ongoing to prevent the movement of poultry including chickens being brought in to Kota Baru and other districts until the situation is completely safe,
