City Hall instructs contractor to cease work after project site found heaped with rubbish

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has instructed the road building contractor for Jalan 3/1 and 6/1 in Kampung Melayu, Forestry Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) Kepong, here to cease road-filling work.
The directive arose following concern over the the rubbish heaped at the project site that could affect the quality of the roads constructed.
DBKL Infrastructure Planning Department director Nurazizi Mokhtar said DBKL initiated the action after checking the location, following complaints received from the residents' association.
"Rubbish should not be found at a construction site. Thus, the contractor has been instructed to stop operation for 14 days to enable them to discard the rubbish accumulated at the site.
"We (DBKL) will dispatch officers to re-examine the site to ensure that the contractors comply with our requirements before starting road-filling work," he told Bernama.
"Previously, DBKL had stopped the contractor's operation from March 13-27. However, they are still repeating the same offence. Thus, we have left the matter to DBKL's enforcement authorities to enable action to be carried out," he said.
According to Nurazizi, originally, DBKL permitted the contractor to only fill the road with earth and rocks to build an alternative route following a ravine found at the site.
He added, DBKL was currently collaborating with the Civil Engineering and Urban Transportation Department, as well as the legal and Prosecution Department to address the issue.
