Public and private TVET institutions rating system to be integrated

KUALA LUMPUR: The Human Resources Ministry through the Skills Development Department will standardise the various public and private Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) institutions rating system to a single system to produce quality workers.
Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Abd Muttalib (pix) said the measure was expected to change the employers employment pattern that is more uniform and attractive as well as meet the the industry market by 2020.
Prior to this, there are training programmes in public and private TVET institutions offering similar programmes with different standards which caused a difference in terms of acceptance by employers and employment rate.
“Through an integrated rating system, the quality of institutions can be assessed based on the ability of the graduates to get a job and the involvement of the institutions with the industry,” he said during question time at the Dewan Negara sitting today.
He was replying to a question from Senator Datuk Seri Syed Ibrahim Kader who asked the ministry to state the measures taken by the government in targeting an increased number of jobs and the outcome of additional workers in achieving developed nation status by 2020.
Ismail said for that purpose, the Skills Development Department had rebranded training skills under Skills Malaysia to standardise and coordinate the quality of skill training to meet the needs of industries in the country. — Bernama
