Rahman Dahlan accuses Penang govt of not having economic plan

PETALING JAYA: Since taking over Penang in 2008, the DAP-led state government never had a proper economic plan for the state, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan.
One good example of this, he said, was the plan to raise the water tariffs.
"They have been merely spewing rhetoric without offering any kind of concrete proposal. They have been managing the state by selling off state land and this is very worrisome because it shows the lack of a proper economic plan," he said.
He said many of the Pakatan Harapan leaders have been offering differing views on what they intend to do with the Goods and Services Tax (GST) once they come to power.
He said some are talking about abolishing the GST, others about adding more zero-rated products, and some others about maintaining it, adding that they don't seem to be on the same page.
"How can we talk to them about GST because their leaders have differing ideas about it.
"If they want to get rid of it or adding more zero-rated items than they must come up with proposals to how they intend to replace the lost revenue," Abdul Rahman told reporters after attending the Asean Ministers Workshop themed "Navigating the Headwinds of Sustainable Development in Asean" at Sunway University today.
He said their main aim is to win the elections and "this worries me because without any proper leadership the country will end up in chaos".
The minister said they (Pakatan Harapan) are making all kinds of promises which is akin to hoodwinking the electorate but they do not have any proper plan on what they they intend to do, citing the GST as an example.
