KUALA LUMPUR: Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) is targeting to complete the award process for most of the work packages for the Light Rapid Transit 3 (LRT3) by middle of the year.
Prasarana president and group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Azmi Abdul Aziz revealed that as of now, most of the big tenders have been decided for the bidding process.
"Once that is done we can start the award process and we are aiming to complete it by July.
"We hope that those who are awarded the packages are able to start work by this year too," Azmi said to reporters after witnessing a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd and Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM).
Azmi added that some of the work at several areas along the alignment for the project has actually started, especially those at the depot area.
"In summary, the project is on track," he said.
The LRT3 project, which will have 26 stations covering 37km, is slated to connect some two million people between Bandar Utama and Klang.
The project which costs RM9 billion is expected to be completed by 2020.
On the MoU, Azmi said Rapid Rail and IEM will be working closely in servicing the needs and interests of its members and the public while upholding the social standing and image of the engineering profession.
The MoU also entails both parties to forge collaboration in the exchange of information and knowledge to promote development programmes for engineers to gain related knowledge and training in rail systems and sub systems, he added.
"By working closely woth IEM, we are hoping that our engineers can acquire more knowledge and learn through the experience of others," he said.
