RTD targets RM4b revenue collection this year

    MALACCA: The Road Transport Department (RTD) targeted to collect RM4 billion in revenue this year for all the services offered in accordance with key performance indicators (KPI) set at 5% increase (of collection) every year.
    Its finance division director Datuk Kamarudin Mohamad Saad said that last year, the department had collected about RM3.9 billion, an increase of 6% compared to RM3.7 billion in the previous year.
    He said RTD was the third department with the highest grossing revenue last year, after the Inland Revenue Board and Royal Customs Department.
    "The increase in revenue is due to the expansion of the services that we have undertaken over the past year as well as increased number of road users that contributed to use of our services.
    "We will continue to mobilise our Counter 1 facility to ensure our services can reach all levels of society, including those in remote areas that are located far from RTD branches to facilitate comprehensive services to the people," he told reporters here today.
    He was speaking after the opening of the 71st RTD Day for Malacca state level that was attended by State Transport, Rehabilitation Project and International Trade Committee chairman Datuk Lim Ban Hong and Malacca RTD director Mohd Fadhil Hassan.
    In the meantime, Kamarudin said the RTD needed additional 14 units of RTD Counter 1, the departments' mobile counter service, this year, in an effort to expand the service department's efficiently, and hoped it could be obtained in the near future.
    "So far, we only have 14 vans that serve as RTD counter 1 and thus far, for RTD in Perlis and Negri Sembilan, they still don't have this counter facility and it is a necessity for us to improve the quality and expand the range of services available to the public," he said.
    Meanwhile, Kamarudin said RTD, in collaboration with Pos Malaysia, encouraged customers to use online services as part of the transformation efforts of its existing delivery and services.
    "Through this initiative, service such as vehicle licence and road tax renewal should be done through our website and the renewed licence and road tax will then be sent to customers using courier services. This service is expected to be implemented in the near future, to reduce over-the-counter transactions," he said. — Bernama
