Week-old infant abandoned in front of a house in Kubang Semang

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A baby was abandoned in front of a house at MK18, Mengkuang Semarak, Kubang Semang here.
According to Central Seberang Perai district police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid, police were alerted by a resident, Ahmad Najib Razak, at about 7.45am today
"Based on initial investigation, the baby boy, who was wrapped in a batik cloth, was born less than a week ago.
"The baby boy was abandoned in front of a house occupied by a 76-year-old man," he said.
Nik Ros Azhan said the newborn was sent to Seberang Jaya Hospital for observation and the Welfare Department had been notified.
The case will be investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for abandonment of child, which carries a maximum seven years' jail sentence, or fine, or both.
