600 join Yes! Perdana Volunteer Programme Series 1

TANJUNG MALIM: A total of 600 volunteers comprising students and staff from 13 polytechnics in the country participated in the Yes! Perdana Volunteer Programme Series 1 at the Sultan Azlan Shah Polytechnic in Behrang.
The two-day programme, which began on Wednesday and organised in collaboration with the 1Malaysia For Youth (iM4U) and Yayasan Bina Upaya Darul Ridzuan, saw volunteers took part in house repair works such as painting, changing rooftops and repairing electrical wiring system, at 25 houses in 13 villages in Behrang and Slim River near here.
Perak Women Development, Social Welfare, Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Rusnah Kassim said such a programme had benefited both the students and the villagers.
"It (the programme) is a good collaboration, noble and commendable as it helps the students to improve their skills and personalities while helping those in need.
"I would like to extend my appreciation to the management of polytechnics for coming out with the idea of helping the society, and I hope this cooperation would continue in the future," she told reporters after the programme here today.
Other activities participated by the participants during the programme were the Polytechnic Edu Care Operation promotional campaign, "Business Matching for Women 17" entrepreneurship programme, as well as the beautification and landscape project on several buildings and areas in the district.
The outreach programme, themed ''We Care for the Community, We Love Malaysia'', was tailored at community in need of assistance in the technical and vocational aspects. — Bernama
