Movie Review - Shock Wave

CHEUNG (Lau) is a superintendent of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau of the Hong Kong Police Force who once went undercover as a protege to Blast (Jiang) - a top wanted criminal specialising in producing bombs.
His identity was revealed during a robbery, which led to the arrest of Blast's brother. Blast swears to return for revenge and meticulously planned his attacks over the period of seven years.
In the midst of a series of bomb attacks occurring all over Hong Kong, the city's busiest underwater tunnel have been blocked with hundreds of citizens trapped and taken hostage by Blast. As the criminal threatens to blow up the tunnel, Cheung has to risk his life to stop Blast before time runs out.
Lau plays an incredibly serious, sharp and clever bomb disposal expert that gives you the same kind of relief when you see a superhero turn up at a scene to save the day.
While your heart will still race as he cautiously tries to disarm a bomb by picking the right wire to cut, his on-screen confidence makes you feel he is almost invincible. Lau's acting skills certainly does not disappoint.
The plot was well drawn out, except that it had several scenes and characters which I felt were unnecessary. While I found certain scenes to be a drag and wished I had control of the fast-forward button, it wasn't overbearing because it was balanced out with a fair amount of action scenes.
There's a couple of tear-jerking moments that complements the entire film and gives it depth. As this film revolves around bombs, expect to also see grotesquely blasted bodies that might make your stomach churn a little.
Overall, an enjoyable film that will keep you at the edge of your seat.
