Nigerian chef arrested for distributing cannabis at restaurant

SERDANG: Police arrested a Nigerian chef and his girlfriend for distributing cannabis, at a restaurant where the former works.
Serdang district police chief ACP Mohd Megat Mohammad Aminudin Megat Alias said, following an intelligence team surveillance, police arrested the duo last Saturday at 6.30pm.
"The 42-year-old Nigerian chef was arrested for allegedly trying to sell drugs to the customers in the restaurant.
"Investigators seized one kilogram of cannabis worth RM2,000 from his apartment at Seri Kembangan. He had sold less than five grams for RM50 since three months ago," he said, during a press conference at the Serdang district police headquarters today.
Megat Mohammad said the suspect's regular buyers were his foreign friends and customers.
"Police are in the midst of investigating if the chef had any local customers," he added.
He added that the suspects 32-year-old girlfriend, who is also a Nigerian, was a student at a private university here.
"Police have yet ascertain if she is involved in the selling of drugs, but the couple have been remanded until April 29 under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death punishment upon conviction.
Meanwhile in a separate case, Serdang police crippled an Indonesian gang dubbed "Palembang Gang", suspected to be responsible for a few car break-in cases, following the arrest of 12 suspects.
The 12 were arrested in separate raids on March 22.
Megat Mohammad said police seized mobile phones, laptops, keys, car breaking tools and a few electronic gadgets.
The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for vehicle theft, and the gang are believed to have been active for the past four months.
In an unrelated case, Megat added police also smashed an underage motorcycle theft syndicate with the arrest of seven teenagers during an operation, on April 22.
He said those detained were aged between 15 and 19-years old, and several motorcycles were seized during the arrests.
Upon inspection, it was found that the engine and chassis numbers of the six motorcycles were tampered with and the motorcycle was stolen.
