KEPALA BATAS: There is a sufficient supply of raw material for Ramadan and Syawal at the farmers' markets throughout the country, said Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) director-general Datuk Ahmad Ishak.
He said there were 668 farmers' markets throughout the country which offered a variety of raw material at prices between 5% and 20% cheaper than ordinary markets.
"The supply of raw material such as chicken, beef, fish, eggs as well as vegetables is sufficient and the prices are expected to be stable," he told reporters after launching a financial seminar organised by Fama here today.
He also advised traders at the farmers' markets to display their price tag, grades of their products and label each product.
"If they do not display the price tag and label their products, Fama will take stern action either by giving demerit points or terminating their participation in the farmers' markets," he said.
Ahmad said sales generated at the farmers' markets in 2016 amounted to RM1.8 billion.
"This year, we expect to generate more than RM2 billion," he said. — Bernama
