WCS 60 rebate scheme a boon to large families

GEORGE TOWN: Big households, with eight or more people in Penang are entitled for a Water Supply Conservation Surcharge 60 (WCS 60) for 60% rebate in their water bills.

Speaking during a press conference at the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) office in Komtar here yesterday, PBAPP chief executive officer Datuk Jaseni Maidinsa said the rebate would help ease the burden of large families.

He said as of March this year, a total of 985 families had benefited from the WCS 60.

"Large families in the state can apply for the rebate at all PBAPP Customer Service Centres and our website," he told reporters.

He said the purpose of the WCS was to encourage people to save water.

"We want people to avoid the WCS by saving or conserving water at home.

"Domestic consumption is higher than trade consumption in the state. Households consume 59.4% of treated water in Penang," he said, adding that the WCS review would only affect about 25% of domestic consumers in the state.
