PETALING JAYA: Repair works for the burst pipe in Sungai Buloh was completed at 7.45pm today, ahead of the estimated time of 48 hours.
Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas), in a statement today said, with the completion of repair works, water supply restoration has already started in the affected areas.
"Water supply to the affected areas in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang and Shah Alam are being restored in stages.
"Premises located on higher ground and at the end of the water distribution systems will take a longer time to fully recover," Syabas said.
Initially it said the repair works for the burst pipe was estimated to be completed within 48 hours, and water restoration will take three days after the completion of repair works.
This would have left more than a million people in 280 areas in the Klang Valley facing dry taps for the next five days due to one burst pipe.
Syabas said that this involves 300,000 accounts of households and premises in these areas including schools, the Sungai Buloh Hospital, Universiti Malaya Medical Centre, and the Sungai Buloh Prison.
Syabas corporate communications head Amin Lin Abdullah explained that the water restoration can only be done in stages.
"(This is because) upon completion of the repair works, water has to be channelled to all service reservoirs in all affected areas.
"Water will only be supplied to premises when the service reservoirs is filled with water," he told theSun.
In a statement released earlier today, Syabas said an unscheduled water supply disruption occurred following a main pipe burst behind the ELC International School, at Jalan Sierramas Barat, Sg Buloh.
"We are doing our best to expedite the repair works as well as water restoration.
"Repair works will be done all round the clock until it is completed," Amin said when contacted.

Syabas has activated its Emergency Response Plan, where water tankers will be sent to affected area with priority given to critical users like hospitals.
Consumers can request for relief water supply by sending an SMS to 15300 (Type: TankerName & Address).
