Riot reminds construction companies of 3S officer requirement at site

TAWAU: Construction companies undertaking projects valued at more than RM20 million are required to engage at least one site safety supervisor (3S) to monitor safety at the project site.
Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot said the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) has the authority to issue stop-work notice if it was found the construction company failed to appoint a 3S officer and neglect the safety and health aspects of workers.
"Recently DOSH stopped two construction projects, in Kuala Lumpur and in Malacca for failing to comply with the 3S officer requirement and other safety aspects.
"The stop-work notice will obviously cost the company as the project could be delay up to six months or until DOSH is satisfied with the safety and health measures taken by the companies," he told reporters after opening a National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), here today. — Bernama
