UMT student dies after being run over by bus

MARANG: A Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) student died after being run over by a bus at kilometre 15, Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan Road near Kampung Rhu Rendang here, yesterday.
In the incident around 6.20pm, Amira Farhana Abdul Rahman, 24, was riding a motorcycle when she lost control of the machine at the traffic light junction before being run over by the bus.
State Traffic Enforcement Investigation Department chief Supt Abd Razak Hasan confirmed the incident when contacted by Bernama.
He said the victim succumbed to serious head injuries at the scene and her remains had been sent to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital forensic unit for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, UMT vice chancellor Prof Datuk Nor Aeini Mokhtar said the university was very saddened by the tragedy.
"The victim was on her way from Dungun and heading to campus after visiting her family at 5pm. UMT presented RM1,000 from its condolence fund, RM1,000 from the Students Welfare Fund and RM10,000 in insurance to the family.
"The Terengganu Mentri Besar’s Office through Yayasan Terengganu also offered their deepest condolences and donated a sum to the victim’s family,” she said.
She said Nor Aieni, a Food Science (Food Technology) undergraduate, excelled in her studies and was active in voluntary activities. — Bernama
