Fallen tree blocks traffic on Jalan Paya Terubong

GEORGE TOWN: Strong winds and rain uprooted a tree and caused traffic snarl along hilly route in Jalan Paya Terubong this afternoon.
In the afternoon incident, the tree fell down on middle of road and caused gridlock as motorists were caught in the congestion.
Fire and Rescue Department unit personnel were also seen immediately reached the site and removed the tree branches.
They also cut off uprooted tree and cleared the road to ensure traffic was opened to motorists in about half an hour.
Earlier, personnel were still clearing the site while vehicles were in bumper-to-bumper crawl at the hilly road.
Meanwhile, a heavy downpour for nearly an hour on Sunday night caused ground floor of a shopping mall in George town to be inundated with water.
A short video clip viral on social media showed water was flowing along corridor at some of the eatery outlets.
