SUNGAI PETANI: The Health Ministry has so far not received the full post-mortem report on the death of tahfiz student, Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Gaddafi that attracted public attention.
Its minister Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam (pix) said the ministry could only explain the actual cause of the 11-year-old boy's death after the post mortem report is received.
"We cannot deny the possibility of other diseases ailing the child but, whatever it is, we will wait for the full report first," he told reporters after attending the MIC Retreat, Gearing Towards General Election 14 programme in Aimst University here today.
The case of Mohamad Thaqif Amin, who was admitted to the Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI) in Johor Baru on April 19 went viral on social media after he was reported to have suffered injuries on his legs after allegedly being beaten by the assistant warden of his madrasah or private religious school.
After both his legs were amputated, Mohamad Thaqif Amin's right arm was infected due to blood clots. He was scheduled to have his arm up to the elbow amputated but his surgery was postponed as his heart was reported to be unstable.
However, on April 26 the student died.
The case also received the attention of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak who had directed that investigation on his death be expedited. — Bernama
