ALOR STAR: PAS wants the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to check if other political parties adhered to the principles contained in the Federal Constitution.
Party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said ROS should check if other parties acknowledged Islam as the religion of the federation in their party constitution.
"Do they respect Islam? Do they respect the monarchy?
"Do they respect the right of the Bumiputra and the special positions of Sabah and Sarawak?
"I am asking ROS to ensure these things are so," he said and stressed PAS recognised the position of Islam in Malaysia as its struggle was based on Islam.
Abdul Hadi said this while winding up to points raised during the 63rd PAS muktamar in Kota Sarang Semut near here.
His almost hour long speech was punctuated with shouts of "Allahuakbar" (God is great) from delegates especially when recounting the occasion when he tabled the bill to enhance the Syariah Courts at the last Parliament meeting.
Abdul Hadi sniped at parliamentarians who he said tried to stop the tabling of the bill, widely known as RUU355, and described their antics as unparliamentary.
"They were angry at PAS for wanting to strengthen Islam," he said but did not name names.
He said the struggle of the party was based on principles contained in the Quran and the Sunnah.
He listed several examples of PAS leaders who lost leadership contests yet still remained with the party.
"They did not leave to join another party nor did they form other parties," he said.
Earlier, Party Elections Committee chairman Datuk Wan Abdul Muttalib Embong announced Abdul Hadi won the presidency uncontested for the 2017 to 2019 term.
His deputy Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man also won uncontested while veeps Idris Ahmad, Datuk Nik Amar Abdullah and Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad retained their posts.
In a press conference later, Abdul Hadi said Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan would be reappointed as secretary general.
On the motion to break the "tahaluf siyasi" (political cooperation) with PKR which was passed by delegates, he said the Syura Council would meet to decide the matter.
"They will decide when to convene, it is up to them," he said when asked.
Abdul Hadi also slammed those he claimed who tried to make PAS a stepping stone for their political career.
He said the party has sifted out such leaders in the last party election and told those not on the same page to resign or risk being sidelined or sacked.
