Man charged in two courts over drugs

GEORGE TOWN: A 24-year-old man was charged at two different courts today for the possession and trafficking of cannabis.
Former site supervisor Lim Chun Teng, 24, was charged with possessing 76g of cannabis at the roadside of Pesiaran Halia 3, Tanjung Tokong, on April 18 at 6pm.
He claimed trial to the charge which falls under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 where those convicted are liable for a minimum five year prison sentence and a minimum of 10 strokes of the cane.
DPP Lim Saw Sim prosecuted the case before Sessions Court Judge Norsalha Hamzah while Chun Teng was represented by Dev Kumaraendran and no bail was offered.
At the Magistrate Court, Chun Teng was charged with trafficking in 374g of cannabis at Lorong Zoo 5 in Air Itam on the same day at 8pm.
The offence under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
DPP Nurul Fatin Hussin prosecuted the case before Magistrate Mohamad Amin Shahul Hamid.
Both courts fixed July 6 for mention pending the chemist report.
