IPOH: Police are closing in on Gang 24 and Gang 36 members, two of the country's most notorious secret societies said Tan Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim.
The Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIGP) said it is only a matter of time before they are nabbed.
He said the police's Special Task Force for Anti-Vice, Gaming and Gangsterism (STAGG) are closing in on the gangs leaders following the arrests of Gang 24 and Gang 36 members nationwide.
"We will be launching a special operation to nab their members who think that they are at their peak in gang-related activities now.
"For starters, we are gathering every detail we can about these leaders in order to build a solid case against them under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma) 2012," he told reporters here after witnessing the handing over of duties by outgoing Perak police chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Rahim Hanafi to his deputy, Commissioner Datuk Hasnan Hassan.
On the 40 people arrested after a video clip of a "celebration" in honour of Gang 24 outside a school in Klang which went viral, Noor Rashid said the youngsters would be charged under Section 143 of the Penal Code for unlawful assembly and destroying public or private property.
theSun reported over the weekend that Selangor deputy police chief DCP Datuk Fuad Abd Latiff said police are widening their crackdown against Gang 24 in Selangor as they are now working to identify all its members including students and tracing the gang's network in schools around the state.
Fuad Abd Latiff also said the state police have also roped in the Special Branch, to fight the illegal group and its recruitment of teenagers.
He also urged parents to monitor their childrens' communications via smartphones to prevent them from joining secret societies which have been actively recruiting members via WhatsApp.
On April 20, two video recordings showing a group of men believed to be members of Gang 24 causing a commotion outside a school in Klang went viral in the social media.
The first video shows a group of people shouting and holding banners which read '24' and 'TD4' while the second video shows a cake with the words 'SMK Sri Andalas', '24' and 'Apache '.
