PETALING JAYA: Some 80 Malaysians have dedicated themselves to participating in a series of walks to help the needy.
The "Good Will Walk – Walk to Feed 2017", is a series of walks all over the country with the aim of raising some RM100,000 to assist the Orang Asli during natural disasters and to feed the homeless in Kuala Lumpur.
"The Good Will Walk (GWW) movement was born out of the utmost necessity to find committed and dedicated volunteers and donors to assist in fundraising our next humanitarian mission, before the next disaster and definitely not one week after," said GWW organiser and United Sikhs humanitarian aid director and Malaysia Foodbank founder Rishiwant Singh when met at a recent walk in KL over the weekend.
In the latest walk, the participants including Rishiwant and several prominent individuals like Zhariff Affandi a former Youth Icon and founder of the Zhariff initiative, as well as Anne Ooi aka Aunty Bersih, walked more than 16km to seven Gurdwaras (from Pulapol to Pudu) with the highlight being the stopover at the National Mosque and the Mariamman Temple in Jalan Tun HS Lee where the group were welcomed by the respective officials.
He mentioned that more walks were already in the pipeline to raise more funds to help the Orang Asli and for the soup kitchen, Nanak's Kitchen, which feeds the homeless in KL.
The next walk will be held on May 6 in Miri and those keen to join can contact Rishiwant (012-222 4242) or download the Good Will Walk app to get updates on the events and to register as a participant for upcoming walks.
