PUTRAJAYA: Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai has instructed the Civil Aviation Department (DCA) to submit a report on Tuesday's incident where the tyres of a Malaysia Airlines aircraft deflated while landing at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
He said the DCA director-general had visited the site of the incident today and stressed that the security and safety of the airport has always been a priority for the ministry.
"A thorough investigation will be conducted into the incident specifically on what actually happened that led to the tyres getting deflated because it rarely occurs.
"We will also look into all aspects including the weather, the runway and even aircraft maintenance," he told reporters after Malaysia Airlines pledged their support and participation in the Negaraku initiative at the Prime Minister's Office, here, yesterday.
Two tyres of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH726 from Jakarta deflated after landing safely at KLIA at 7.13am on Tuesday.
The incident prompted authorities to shut down Runway 2 at KLIA as a consequence.
Earlier, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) said that flight operations at KLIA were not affected by the closure of Runway 2 due to the availability of three independent runway systems.
