GM, wife remanded over bribery (Updated)

PUTRAJAYA: A general manager of a subsidiary of government-owned transport provider Prasarana Malaysia Berhad and his wife who were detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Wednesday for alleged corruption was remanded for five days from yesterday.
The 54-year-old manager and his 50-year-old wife were taken to the magistrates court here by MACC investigators at 9am before magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab Rahman issued the remand order.
The general manager of the subsidiary that manages the Rapid Cheras South technical support project and his wife were held when they showed up at commissions headquarters here at 6.30pm yesterday.
MACC investigators learnt that the general manager had allegedly accepted bribes in exchange for the approval of projects involving the supply of buses, its spare parts and repair.
The general manager who was also formerly a top official for the company's Penang branch had also allegedly kept the ill-gotten gains in his wife's bank account since 2013.
