GEORGE TOWN: Two traders who drove off with a Penang Island City Council (MBPP) truck during an operation last night have been detained.
Northeast district police chief ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said the duo will be remanded until May 7.
He said both the suspects aged 28 and 34-years-old will be investigated under Section 353 of the Penal Code for using force to create fear against civil servants who were carrying out their duties.
"Investigations revealed that the council enforcement officers went to the duo's unlicensed stall at Jalan Tanjung Tokong to confiscate their belongings.
"When the enforcement officer and his driver went to the back of the lorry to lower the ramp, the duo went into the lorry, locked it and drove off in the vehicle," he said in a statement today.
Yesterday, a video clip shared on social media showed the man and his friend seated beside him, driving off in the MBPP truck.
The clip also showed the man criticising the council for not giving any valid notice to them in the 8.45pm incident.
Mior said they drove the truck to the Pulau Tikus police station to prevent their belongings from being seized.
It is believed that the duo were caught right after they drove the truck to the police station.
