Footballer arrested in cloned car probe

SERDANG: Police have arrested a local football club player after he was found driving a BMW without a valid registration plate.
Selangor Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief SAC Fadzil Ahmat said following a tip-off, a team of policemen inspected a BMW which was parked at Bandar Puteri Puchong here at about 4am yesterday.
"When the policemen arrived at the scene, an African male was seen approaching the car and unlocked the BMW.
"Police stopped the foreigner, 30, and conducted a check based on the vehicle's chassis number. The chassis number was not registered under the Road Transport Department (JPJ) system and police arrested the man," Fadzil said in a statement today.
He added the vehicle was also seized to facilitate investigations and police believe the vehicle could be a cloned car.
"The foreigner, is attached to a local football club and we are investigating the case under Section 29(1) of the Minor Offences Act," he added.
The suspect will be remanded until May 7.
