Four suspects nabbed after rioting incident in Austin Perdana

JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested four suspects believed to be involved in a rioting case that took place in front of a surau, in Taman Austin Perdana, Johor Baru yesterday.
In a statement, state criminal investigation department chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Kamarulzaman Mamat said four men, aged between 21 and 55, were arrested by a team from the Secret Societies, Gambling and Vice Department (D7) of Johor Baru South Police station, at nearby areas around 1am this morning.
He said police will investigate the case under Section 147 of the Penal Code (Act 574) for rioting.
The suspects may face a maximum jail term of two years or a fine, or both, if convicted.
The 55-year-old suspect works as seaman, while the other three are jobless.
In the 1.30pm incident yesterday, the 28-year-old victim, honked incessantly outside a surau during Friday prayers, because his car was blocked by vehicles parked on both sides of the road.
It is believed that a group of men enraged by the continuous honking, came out of the surau to confront the driver of the car.
In videos captured by bystanders, some men were seen kicking and hitting the car.
The driver then reversed, and tried to divert the car, in a hasty attempt to escape the crowd.
The group of men were seen shouting at the driver, before hitting and breaking the car's windshield with a helmet and an orange road cone.
The driver had no choice, but to step out of his car, only to be attacked by the large group of men.
The victim suffered injuries to head and his body.
Police said the victim denied he uploaded the video on internet.
Police also warned the public not to make comments and make the incident viral.
Meanwhile Tebrau MP Khoo Si Siang said, a meeting involving all parties was held at 3pm on Friday, and it was agreed that the matter should be referred to the police.
He urged the public to uphold spirit of muhibbah.
